Raimunda (Penélope Cruz) and Sole (Lola Dueñas) lose both of their parents in a fire in La Mancha, the village of their birth. The two, along with Raimunda's daughter, Paula (Yohana Cobo), return home to visit their aging aunt (Chus Lampreave). The aunt speaks of their mother, Irene (Carmen Maura), as if she were still alive, yet the daughters brush it off as senility.
