Kit Kittredge (Abigail Breslin), an aspiring reporter, lives with her mother Margaret (Julia Ormond) in her family's boarding house during the Great Depression. When her father (Chris O'Donnell) leaves Cincinnati in search of work, Kit and her mother are left to fend for themselves, growing their own food while taking in an assortment of boarders, including young hobos Will (Max Thieriot) and Countee (Willow Smith). When a crime wave spreads over the city, Kit sets out to solve the crime with the help of her friends Stirling (Zach Mills) and Ruthie (Madison Davenport). Directed by Patricia Rozema.
