When Admiral Frank Beardsley (Dennis Quaid), a strict widower with eight children, marries his high school sweetheart Helen (Rene Russo), a free-spirited fashion designer with ten children of her own, the sheer size of their new fmaily is enough to give them a headache. But, when the two sets of children begin to clash, a giant turf war begins, pitting brother against brother and sister against sister.
